Ben Stiller: 5 Awesome Performances and 5 That Sucked

4. The Heartbreak Kid

Ben Stiller is quite publicly stressed that people don€™t take him seriously as an actor. I feel for him, I really do, but his choice to attach himself to movies like The Heartbreak Kid is precisely why. It€™s a shame to see the Farrely€™s stoop as low as this, considering they were once on track to be a sort of Coen Bros. for gross-out comedy; it€™s even more of a shame to see Stiller floundering in such unfunny drivel. Admittedly his ability as a comedic performer is one of the few highlights of the film€™s opening act, but his character is just so fundamentally unlikeable that as soon as those opening moments run dry, The Hearbreak Kid really has nowhere left to go. Stiller hits yet another flat-note here, and succeeds only to sully his own name further.
