20 Awesome Horror Movies NOBODY Talks About

8. The Clovehitch Killer

Serial killer movies are so ingrained in the bones of horror culture that it's tough to stand out these days, but The Clovehitch Killer is a uniquely disquieting offering - and one inspired by the crimes of real-life murderer Dennis Rader aka BTK.

Far from the salacious, relentlessly grisly affair you might expect, this is actually a quiet slow-burn of a movie that's far more about its characters than their violent actions.

Dylan McDermott has never been better as the patriarch of a family with a deep, dark secret, and Charlie Plummer matches him every step of the way as his increasingly suspicious son.

It's a film that so confidently and nimbly sidesteps just about every cliche we associate with a Serial Killer Movie, leading up to an unexpectedly affecting ending which ties it all together perfectly.

Yet even though it was praised by none other than Stephen King back in 2021, The Clovehitch Killer has basically fallen through the cracks since its 2018 release - something King himself pointed out while lavishing it with praise.
