20 Great Performances Wasted In Terrible Horror Movies
1. Dennis Quaid - The Intruder
And finally we have The Intruder - an intensely generic horror-thriller in which a couple (Michael Ealy and Meagan Good) are terrorised by the psychotic former owner of their new home (Dennis Quaid).
There's absolutely nothing here you haven't seen before, and the characters we're supposed to root for are strangely unlikeable.
But credit to Dennis Quaid for knowing exactly what he had to do to make the film even halfway watchable.
Quaid is clearly aware of the type of movie he's in and delivers a scenery-devouring turn for the ages, mugging so much for the camera he occasionally looks like he's a moment or two away from breaking into laughter.
And it's so, so much fun, even if you can't help but wish that such a game, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink villain performance had a more knowing, self-aware B-movie accompanying it.
It's easy to picture director Deon Taylor simply letting Quaid do whatever the hell he wanted, and this is the glorious insanity we ended up with.
