20 Most Anticipated Horror Movies Of 2027

17. The Exorcist: Martyrs

Mike Flanagan's The Exorcist

Difficult though it might seem to get excited about a new Exorcist movie at this point, here's six words that oughtta do it - "written and directed by Mike Flanagan."

Indeed, the most acclaimed voice in modern horror recently wrapped shooting The Exorcist: Martyrs - a standalone quasi-reimagining of the legendary supernatural horror franchise following a rookie detective (Scarlett Johansson) who gets pulled into, and we quote, "unimaginable evil."

After literally decades of lackluster Exorcist sequels and prequels, Flanagan is precisely the caliber filmmaker needed to pull the dusty IP out of the doldrums and make it feel fresh again.

It doesn't hurt that Flanagan has assembled one of the most impressively stacked casts of any upcoming horror film, with Scarlett Johansson being joined by Diane Lane, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, Sasha Calle, John Leguizamo, and Flanagan regulars Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly, John Gallagher Jr., Carla Gugino, Samantha Sloyan, and Kate Siegel.

If this isn't the best Exorcist film since at least the criminally underrated Exorcist III - if not the 1973 original itself - it'll be a huge shock.

The Exorcist: Martyrs releases on March 12, 2027.
