Bill Murray: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Jack Corcoran - Larger Than Life (1996)

Larger Than Life is one of those movies where Disney used to look at who was popular at the time, ignore precisely why and threw money at turning them into a family comedy movie star. In this case, they ignored the fact that Murray was appealing because of his pitch black humour, flirtation with anti-hero status and downright roguish charm and relegated him to an unfunny sidekick to a bored elephant in a mirthless "comedy" about finding yourself down an elephant's trunk or something. There is something of the trademark Murray Jerk school here, but it's so badly written that there's no laughs or charm to redeem him. He's just a bit of a jerk on a Planes, Trains And Pachyderms journey across America that is so hard to invest in that the end goal becomes entirely redundant.
