Bill & Ted 3 Trailer Review: 5 Ups & 1 Down

Ups...

5. So. Much. Nostalgia.

If you're like this writer, you probably felt a sudden rush of nostalgia as soon as you saw the Orion Pictures logo at the beginning of the trailer. You probably grinned the cheesiest of grins when Bill and Ted told the-powers-that-be to 'be excellent to each other' and to 'party on, dude'. And you probably lost your minds when William Sadler's Grim Reaper popped up.

Yes, the Bill & Ted Face The Music trailer suggests the film is going to be one big nostalgic trip, and while that has proven to be a problematic route for other classic film franchises, it's exactly what this saga needs.

The problem with longer-running franchises attempting to exploit nostalgia is the fact that their lengthy existence should have given them the chance to reinvent themselves for the modern day. Bill & Ted need not worry about that because it's a returning relic from days-gone-by and thus, it's all about nostalgia.

The previous two films were very much products of their time (so much so that some don't think they've aged particularly well), so it's imperative that Bill & Ted Face The Music holds onto that nostalgic charm. Thankfully, the trailer suggest that this is exactly what we're going to get.
