3. Its Predictable Focus On The Daughters

Though Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine are quite terrific as Bill and Ted's daughters, it also has to be said that the film's focus on them at the expense of Bill and Ted themselves does feel rather excessive.

As is all the rage for nostalgia-fuelled sequels these days, Face the Music is focused on passing the baton from parents to children, and largely does that by having Thea and Billie go through the same time-traveling recruitment mission that Bill and Ted did.

By film's end, the "family is everything" message just feels a little too pat and predictable to hit the mark, and while Thea and Billie are fun additions to the cast, they too often steal the focus away from the duo everyone actually came to see.

It's possible this was partially in order to accommodate Keanu Reeves' busy schedule, but considering how many franchises defer to the whole "next generation" shtick, it feels so totally played out, even lazy, in 2020.
