Bill & Ted Face The Music Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Time Travel Lacks The Cleverness Of The First Two Films

It's fair to say that most time travel-themed comedies don't take their internal logic too seriously, though the first two Bill & Ted movies actually had a pretty firm handle on their own mechanics.

Face the Music basically says "screw all that" and effectively encourages the audience to just accept the twisty time-hopping non-logic and enjoy the laughs.

Early on in the movie a line of dialogue actually verbalises the hand-waving - "Things don't make sense until the end of the story."

More disappointing than the scarce coherence of the time travel itself is the lack of creatively amusing gags about its inherent absurdity.

Excellent Adventure's famous joke with Ted's dad's keys, for example, is infinitely more clever and witty than any time travel-related humour in this movie, and it never even gets close, honestly.
