Billy Crystal: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Mitch Robbins - City Slickers II: The Legend Of Curly's Gold

No one, anywhere, ever requested a sequel to City Slickers; the original was fun for what it was, but the story had been told. Crystal pressed ahead with one regardless, as he was probably seeking a solid hit following the failure of Mr. Saturday Night.

The second movie is pretty much the same story warmed up, with the three lead characters setting off to find some gold that was buried by the late Curly. Since they obviously couldn€™t bring the character back they went for the laziest ploy in the book; tunrs out Curly had a twin brother who is also played by Jack Palance. Crystal is clearly going through the motions here; he looks miserable having to repeat the same gags again, and his heart just isn't in it.

The film does have an interesting subtext to it; all the characters are reluctantly dragged back in search of finding gold, which is basically what the filmmakers are doing too. While the characters in the film find it, the movie itself didn€™t; it just barely made back the budget.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
