Birds Of Prey - 10 Reasons To Be Excited
1. The World Building
Despite being a massive epicentre for crime in the comics, Gotham has barely been seen in the DCEU thus far. With the exception of small appearances in Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, no film has really taken the time to delve into the heart of what makes Gotham such a vile city to live in.
With a bit of luck, a film that is set entirely in Gotham City should make world building a safe bet, and the involvement of Black Mask in the plot should open the most interesting part: the criminal underworld.
Yes, we've seen Joker stir up some trouble in Suicide Squad, but nothing has been indicated so far that there's a real competition between the gangs. Black Mask and Victor Zsasz are likely to have their own enemies outside of the Birds of Prey, and so it wouldn't be out of place for even Easter eggs towards Penguin's revered Iceberg Lounge.
In the interest of further sequels and spin-off's world building is massively important, and if Cathy Yan's track record is anything to go on, then fans will be in for treat when Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) hits theatres February 7th, 2020.
