The Mission Impossible franchise may not have started with a bang, but its reputation has transformed massively over the last few years. 2011's Ghost Protocol and its follow up - Rogue Nation - were stellar action films, with a few stand-out stars making an appearance in each one. Rebecca Ferguson was one such actor, and when looking to cast Catwoman for both Gotham City Sirens and this film, she's a standout choice.
Taking on the role of Ilsa Faust in Rogue Nation and in the soon to be released Mission Impossible: Fallout, Ferguson is experiencing a resurgence unlike any other. The character she plays in those films - that of the ambiguous criminal whose agility and duplicity are her biggest strengths - is taken right from the Selina Kyle playbook, making her a natural fit for the character in either Sirens or Birds of Prey.
Catwoman wasn't a founding member of the group, but she did feature in both the New 52 and DC: Rebirth incarnations of the team somewhat sporadically. Given her popularity amongst fans and the fact there's an off-screen precedent for her involvement, it would be wise to bet on her appearing. Let's just hope that it's Ferguson leading the way.

In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
