That's right, the new film is going to be a fresh take on 'The Lion King'. The artistic challenge of conveying the themes of a world-renowned children's animated film in a visual album is truly ambitious, but how will it be done?

While it makes sense that there would be an association with this film and the Disney classic, given its focus on the album that was inspired by the 2019 remake, it is still understandable to be sceptical about how Beyonce's project can pull it off.

'Black is King' is set to release just after the one-year anniversary of the live-action remake of 'The Lion King', and will reportedly explore many of the same themes and morals as the famous animal story.

By following the template of Beyonce's album, the film will hit on the same core ideas of self-belief, destiny and pride, while not exactly being a remake.

Disney say the film is a re-imagining of the classic film's narrative 'for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns', and will likely adapt the teachings of the original narrative and apply them to real-world people and cultures.

So don't worry, we aren't getting another direct remake of Simba's iconic story just one year after the last one! Instead, 'Black is King' looks to be a clever adaptation of the story's lessons and ideas, applied to the lives of real people around the world.
