Black Panther Trailer Reactions: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

4. The World Building

When they said that Black Panther's aesthetic was heavily influenced by Blade Runner, they really weren't kidding. The cityscapes are just as breath-taking and the colour palette is as rich and glorious as has ever been seen in a Marvel movie. It's like they're messing futurism with a self-conscious pulpy comic book panel feel, and it's a beautiful decision.

Crucially, the trailer really builds a sense of Wakanda's difference: the infusion of Afrofuturism here is as brilliant as it is bold - it's the perfect creative ideology to bring to Black Panther, and Marvel and Coogler should be applauded for going in that direction.

The result is literally like nothing we've seen in this sort of blockbuster before, and it could be just as profoundly impactful on films that follow as Blade Runner's aesthetic was.
