Black Widow: 21 WTF Moments

9. The Mission: Impossible-Style Face Masks

Black Widow's heightened action and globetrotting spy story certainly make it feel like a recent Mission: Impossible movie, and that amusingly extends to the inclusion of high-tech, identity-altering face masks.

Once Nat, Yelena, Alexei, and Melina are captured by Dreykov's squad and brought to the Red Room, we find out that Nat and Melina secretly swapped identities in order to carry out their plan.

Melina meets with Dreykov, only for Dreykov to pull away the face mask revealing Nat underneath, while the seemingly imprisoned Nat is actually Melina, who having designed the Red Room's cells is able to free herself and Alexei immediately.

These masks, or at least similar tech, have been used a few prior times in the MCU, most notably when Natasha impersonated a member of the World Security Council (Jenny Agutter) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, though never in a fashion quite as thematically appropriate as this.
