Marvel Studios has no control over the fan theories that come around in the build up to the release of a new movie or series. Fans will always try to figure out what they are about to see, but this was true for Black Widow more so than most other properties, simply because of the amount of time they had to wait.

The biggest mystery going into the movie was the true identity of the villainous Taskmaster. Theories ranged from it being Clint Barton, Rick Mason, or even a clone of Natasha behind the mask, but with all of these possibilities running through fans heads, the reveal that Taskmaster was Dreykov's previously unseen daughter was slightly underwhelming.

Even aside from the big reveal, the villain that can copy the fighting style of anyone she comes up against had the potential to be at least an intriguing MCU character, but she was criminally underused. Ironically, the fact that her fighting style was always copied made her unique, but there just wasn't enough of her in the movie, and what made her different ended up having zero relevance or impact on her character or the story.

She was essentially relegated to being a mindless henchman of her father's, the same as any of his Widows just with a tragic backstory linked to Natasha. There were echoes of Bucky in her character after she was freed of her mind control, but even with the connection to the titular hero, there just simply wasn't enough development to make her anywhere close to an interesting character.
