Black Widow: Every Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Alexei Shostakov

Black Widow Taskmaster
Marvel Studios

The father of the fake deep cover Russian family in Ohio had no right to be a likeable character. He was the one who gave Natasha and her sister away to Dreykov and the Red Room without so much as a second thought, and even years later, didn't feel any kind of guilt or remorse.

This was not the only regard in which Alexei was delusional. He enjoyed regaling his fellow prisoners with stories of how he fought Captain America, despite the Star Spangled Man still being frozen during the year his story was set. Yet, by the end of the movie, his blind optimism made him more likeable than he deserved to be.

He was obsessed with his past as the Red Guardian, and the USSR's only ever super soldier felt like he could have been even more famous than Steve Rogers. This allowed for some wonderful comedic moments that David Harbour delivered perfectly, like trying to talk to Natasha without an earpiece, but it wasn't all laughs with Alexei.

His best scene was when he poured his heart out to Yelena after telling her how bored he was all those years ago. Their rendition of American Pie together was a moment of quiet acceptance, and though it wasn't quite forgiveness, Alexei was at least able to prove to his adopted daughter that he did, and still does deeply care about her.
