Although you’d be a foolish employer to trust her unconditionally, Black Widow was a team player during her early career, rarely appearing outside of ensemble adventures.

This began to change in 1999 when she flew solo in a three-issue series published under the Marvel Knights imprint, which focused on strong standalone stories.

This Black Widow tale definitely qualifies as that, and its tone and subject matter make it a good fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Super powers are surplus to requirements in this Bond-esque storyline from Devin Grayson and JG Jones, which focuses on the rise of a younger model of Black Widow named Yelena Belova.

She’s determined to prove herself by taking out her predecessor and her inclusion in the future MCU could present ScarJo’s character with her greatest challenge yet, paving the way for a solid standalone mission.
