Blade Runner 2: 10 Questions That Need Answering

6. How Will Deckard's Replicant Status Be Addressed?

Though the definitive cuts of Blade Runner - those approved by Ridley Scott that weren't tinkered with after studio meddling - lean heavily in favour of the theory that Dickard is himself a replicant, debate still goes on as to whether Deckard is a replicant or not. Producer Michael Deeley wanted Deckard to be human, while co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher left it intentionally ambiguous. Ridley Scott, however, insists that Deckard is a replicant in his final version of the film, and the Final Cut would seem to confirm that. With Scott returning as producer, then, could it mean that Deckard's replicant status is made more obvious than in the previous film and directly addressed? Or, with a new director and a new creative team - not to mention the returning Ford, who always thought Deckard was human, and who played him that way - could the Blade Runner sequel choose to leave it ambiguous still?
