Blood Father Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

4. The Daughter Character Is Actually Resourceful

We've all seen countless revenge-rescue movies like this where the daughter character ends up being functionally useless or, at the very least, incredibly annoying. Taken is a good example.

Thankfully that's not the case here, even though Lydia has the huge handicap of being a junkie. Perhaps it helps that the movie isn't wall-to-wall action and invests a lot in its characters, but Lydia comes off as incredibly capable and far from ditzy eye candy that she could so blatantly have been in a far lesser movie.

Rather, she stands up to her father and, when the time calls for it, is physically able even if she's naturally not an experienced combatant like he is. It's extremely refreshing to see.
