5. Tomas Alfredson
You might not be familiar with Tomas Alfredson on a name basis, but the likelihood is that you've seen at least one of two great movies he's made over the last few years:
Let the Right One In and
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Both movies, of course (one a broody vampire movie, the other an espionage thriller) were released to critical acclaim, and by the looks of things, the Swedish director is in need of a new project. Why's he a good fit, then? Simply put, because the man is genuinely a master of atmosphere. And if
Bond 24 is going into more emotional territory, Alfredson's style - as witnessed in
Tinker - would be absolutely perfect for the spy thrills associated with the franchise. As a bonus of sorts, he's also worked in a British setting with British actors to superb ends, and would likely find himself well-paired with Daniel Craig and friends. Granted, we don't know exactly how Alfredson would fare with huge action sequences and explosions going off all the time, but I've no doubt that he could handle it. Ushering Bond into new places and keeping it interesting means making brave decisions, and Alfredson feels like a director who would genuinely merge brilliantly with the material. Get him on board, I say, before he commits to something else.
