Bond 24: 5 Directors Who Could Replace Sam Mendes

4. Rupert Wyatt

url-4 One of the best directors working in the blockbuster arena today, Rupert Wyatt recently helmed Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which we can all admit was a far better and more accomplished movie than anybody was expecting. And that, we can probably muster, was down to Wyatt, who took some seriously dated material and made it relevant again. Which, mind, is what has arguably just happened with the Bond franchise. Wyatt, then, would make a great director for Bond 24 for a few obvious reasons, though the best (and most important, I feel) is in his abilty to craft a story embracing both emotional cues and massive blockbuster moments. That's to say, if Bond is going in the direction we all think it is - with a more "human" take on the character, at least - Wyatt has already proven that he can make a sensational blockbuster that still allows you to feel something. And at the end of the day, sure, we go to see Bond for the car chases and fisticuffs, but we've seen so much of that over the past 50 years already - what's wrong with a bit of human interaction? And though it's certainly not essential, the man's English. Which can't hurt, can it?
