Bond 24: 8 Classic Characters That Should Be Reintroduced In Next Movie

6. Ernst Stavro Blofeld

blofeld If Bond ever had an arch nemesis, it'd be the cat loving Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Blofeld was there from, almost, the beginning of the Bond franchise, first appearing in 1963's From Russia With Love. For his first few appearances, we never saw Blofeld's face, only the face of his persian cat. In 1966's You Only Live Twice we finally saw Blofeld's face, that of actor Donald Pleasence. Blofeld's appearance in that film would go on to be the basis of Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers trilogy. Blofeld of course, also murdered Bond's wife. Sadly, the series never gave us a proper revenge story regarding Bond going after Blofeld- and the character (uncredited due to a legal dispute with producer Kevin McClory over the rights to the character) was unceremoniously dismissed at the beginning of 1981's For Your Eyes Only- dropped down a chimney pipe by Bond. While the image of Blofeld from the early Bond films has become too much of a parody to work in a modern context, the concept of a shadowy terrorist leader that Bond would be obsessed with finding wouldn't be out of place in our post 9/11 era. I've also long believed that the organization named Quantum, which was introduced in the first two Craig Bond films, was established as this universe's version of SPECTRE. Quantum will no doubt make a reappearance down the road and this may be the perfect place to reintroduce Blofeld. And who's to say Blofeld has to be a man. After re-imaging M as a woman back in GoldenEye- a role Judi Dench played for almost two decades- maybe Helen Mirren or Maggie Smith could be brought in as the new Blofeld. If Blofeld stays a male, as long as he doesn't dress up in drag, a la Diamonds are Forever (1971), we should be alright.
