One of the most iconic visual signifiers of the Bond series is the gun barrel sequence, used in every film in the series to kick things off with a flashy bang, as Bond walks into the gun-sights of an assassin, who he promptly blows away, complete with a stream of blood flooding down the screen, before the movie begins properly. However, the Daniel Craig Bond films have done things a little differently: Casino Royale inserted its gun barrel sequence into an actual scene (rather than being standalone), and both Quantum of Solace and Skyfall placed their gun barrels at the very end, just prior to the closing credits. It's a nitpick, and sometimes traditions are made to be broken, but wouldn't it be nice if we returned to the original gun barrel at the start of the film? Director Sam Mendes apparently intended this for Skyfall, but couldn't make it work editing-wise, so hopefully for Bond 24, he'll have an opening shot in mind that can be transitioned into perfectly from an opening gun barrel. It may seem insignificant, but to die-hard Bond fans the world over, it's an annoyance for sure.
