Bond 25: 10 Things That We Need In The Next 007 Film

8. Tropical, Exotic Locales

Since the conclusion of 2006’s Casino Royale, Bond producers have apparently decided they've met their quota for exotic locations, and so the colour palette of the films has grown increasingly grey and dull.

With only the briefest of intervals at colourful settings such as Shanghai and Istanbul, the globe-trotting adventures of James Bond have been largely marred by choices of a bleak and drab nature. From Haitian slums to bone-dry Bolivian deserts to the grim bleakness of London itself, the powers that be seem to have grown averse to the tropical.

Spectre was the worst offender, with large chunks of the film taking place amidst desolate snow, dry wastelands, and concrete-laden slabs. Even the decision to shoot a key chase sequence in Rome was tarnished by the bizarre portrayal of its streets as completely deserted and lifeless.

Where are the palm trees, the sunshine, the sense of exoticness, the thrill of adventure? No one wants a return to the exact same locations as before, but it’s high time to inject some colour back into Bond’s jet-setting escapades. Please, no more deserts.
