Bond 25: 10 Things That We Need In The Next 007 Film

6. Time's Up, Dr. Swann

The climax of Spectre saw James Bond walking off into the proverbial sunset, hand in hand with new love Dr Madeleine Swann and in doing so, turning down the chance to execute nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld in cold blood.

While the move made sense on a thematic level, few can argue that if these films are to continue for another fifty years, 007 cannot be paired with a particular woman.

A long-standing staple of James Bond is his commitment to the mission, and that’s something that simply can’t be changed anymore than his love of martinis and dislike of The Beatles. Throughout multiple incarnations of the character across multiple eras, certain characteristics always prevail.

This would seem to spell mortal danger for Dr Swann in the next film but, in lieu of yet another vengeance-fuelled plot, there’s an even simpler option at hand for the writers. Faced with another global threat, either the ultimate need of Her Majesty’s finest to save the world or his general aversion to women getting too close would spur either party, sadly, to break it off.
