Brad Pitt: 5 More Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Detective Mills - Seven

Brad Pitt's collaborations with David Fincher have each contributed to the growing body of evidence for his range and ability in their own ways - Fight Club cast him as an archetypal expression of narcissism and pent up rage, playing subversively with his good looks and unbridled energy, while The Curious Case of Benjamin Button took him in the opposite direction with the far more tender and nuanced story of a man who ages in reverse. His first collaboration with David Fincher, Pitt's performance in Seven can be viewed as something of a blend of what was to come. Starring alongside Morgan Freeman as an enthusiastic young detective determined to prove his worth, David Mills is a cocky and headstrong man played with a kind of jumpy enthusiasm which compliments perfectly Morgan's world-weary portrayal. Of course, the real stand-out moment of Brad Pitt's excellent performance in Seven comes in the final scene - here, his self-assurance and arrogance comes crashing down into a realisation of a horror beyond his imagination, and Pitt's face as he makes his final, fateful decision expresses perfectly the transformation David Mills has gone through in a short moment.
