Brendan Fraser was offered SUPERMAN role

Believe it or not but self proclaimed comic book geek Brendan Fraser has revealed this week that he was offered the chance to play SUPERMAN back when J.J. Abrams was pitching his film six or so years ago. Fraser even tried on the tights and cape. He liked the costume. He even screen tested for the role (he hopes it gets leaked one day so we can all see it... and so do I!) but reading between the lines, he turned it down because he didn't want to suffer the Christopher Reeve syndrome of being seen as Superman for the rest of his career. Also he became annoyed that an "offer" for the role instead eventually became "subject to screen test approval".

But of course he admits he did said screen test, so maybe you know, maybe he was turned down after all and just doesn't like to say. I imagine Fraser being likeable but not particularly a great Superman. He is too cocky, too self confident to be Clark Kent, too much of a guy who you would believe would rather be at home eating Nacho's than saving the world. He stumbles into danger and adventures, he doesn't go lucking for them. All I can personally say after hating J.J. Abrams script for Superman with Fraser being so totally wrong for the part... I'm kinda glad they never got the chance to make this movie together. Believe it or not, I actually think Abrams' version was worse than what we ended up seeing with Bryan Singer. Read the script, you will no doubt agree.
