Bruce Willis: 5 Awesome Performances and 5 That Sucked

3. Twelve Monkeys (1995)

From the master of macabre fantasy - Terry Gilliam - comes one of the richest and most involving Time Travel flicks since Back to the Future. It€™s a complex, sometimes convoluted but never annoyingly so, mish-mash of genres that could only have worked with the mad genius director of Brazil and the Fisher King at the helm. When people talk about Twelve Monkeys, it€™s usually Brad Pitt they€™ll mention first. And it€™s not without good reason; Pitt is incredible as the outwardly insane Jeffrey Goines but it€™s perhaps Willis€™ own performance as the hapless, introverted James Cole that truly grounds the picture, gives Pitt€™s turn the counter-measure it needs to be as ghoulishly effective as it is. It's probably Pitt€™s youthful, cocksure performance that gives 12 Monkey€™s the spark that set it apart, but this would have meant little to nothing without such a solid, veteran turn from Willis€™ to accentuate it.
