3. Twelve Monkeys (1995)
From the master of macabre fantasy - Terry Gilliam - comes one of the richest and most involving Time Travel flicks since Back to the Future. Its a complex, sometimes convoluted but never annoyingly so, mish-mash of genres that could only have worked with the mad genius director of Brazil and the Fisher King at the helm. When people talk about Twelve Monkeys, its usually Brad Pitt theyll mention first. And its not without good reason; Pitt is incredible as the outwardly insane Jeffrey Goines but its perhaps Willis own performance as the hapless, introverted James Cole that truly grounds the picture, gives Pitts turn the counter-measure it needs to be as ghoulishly effective as it is. It's probably Pitts youthful, cocksure performance that gives 12 Monkeys the spark that set it apart, but this would have meant little to nothing without such a solid, veteran turn from Willis to accentuate it.
