Bryan Cranston: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

5 Performances That Sucked

5. Cohaagen - Total Recall (2012)

It's a cliche to say that some films should remain untouchable, and though it was far from a flawless, perfectly executed film, the original Total Film was always going to be on that pile: the film's blemishes and far from perfect effects were part of its charm, and beyond being a nostalgic trinket from days gone by (as Hollywood seems to deem every film older than 25 years old) it didn't particularly need remaking. While it would be churlish not to admit that the remake didn't look better, that's pretty much the only virtue that outstrips the original: the writing is woefully under-nourished, the acting performances too understated as a result and the whole thing ends up feeling catastrophically dull, despite boasting a high concept and brilliant storyline. While the original tapped into the zeitgeist and inherent fears of corporate spying and the thrill of subversive rebellion, the remake felt like just another run of the mill sci-fi attempt at glory that wasn't cooked properly. Though Cranston isn't necessarily terrible in the role, he is criminally under-written - along with the majority of the supporting cast in fact - and the fact that the performance (complete with awful wig) came when he was at the height of his Walter White powers makes it all the more disappointing.
