8. The Tone

While the Bay-led Transformers films of old could never seem to settle into a consistent tone - never quite deciding if they wanted to be a family adventure, a sci-fi war epic or a crude comedy with robots - Bumblebee came right out of the gate within the first few seconds of its teaser with images of sunsets and rebellious youths, nostalgia for years gone by, and a sombre voiceover of the late Bernie Mac.

It was making sure audiences knew that this was to be a more thoughtful and heartfelt take on the Transformers saga, a film not afraid to show sentiment towards characters that have captivated the imagination of kids and adults alike for over thirty years.

That, more anything, is a great reason to be excited. It's Transformers how you remember it - what's not to love?
