20 INSANE Horror Sequels We Almost Got

18. Found Footage Friday the 13th

After the commercial success of 2009's Friday the 13th remake, it was simply assumed that Warner Bros. would quickly churn out a couple of sequels until the box office grosses dried up.

And though a script was written by 2011, in 2013 Warner Bros. relinquished the rights to the franchise to Paramount in order to co-produce Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Interstellar.

Later that year, it was reported that Paramount was eyeing David Bruckner (The Signal) to write and direct a found footage take on Friday the 13th.

This news sent shockwaves throughout the fanbase and proved hugely divisive, given that many felt the series simply wasn't a good fit for the found footage format.

Others disagreed, though, feeling that the style could at least result in a distinct franchise entry, especially with a skilled filmmaker like Bruckner at the helm.

But we never got to find out either way, as this installment stalled due to both rights issues and the fact that producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form struggled to crack the found footage angle.

More concerningly, we still haven't had a new Friday the 13th movie in the 17 years (!) since the remake was released. Talk about leaving money on the table.
