Every Cancelled John Carpenter Film We NEVER Got To See

Black Christmas is often considered a proto-slasher, since it inspired countless films in that genre, including Halloween.

John Carpenter was an enormous fan of Black Christmas, so it's not a surprise to learn he did everything in his power to collaborate with the director, Bob Clark.

Carpenter was disappointed Clark had no interest in developing Black Christmas 2, but he still hoped his idol would helm a movie he co-wrote called Prey. The proposed slasher revolved around three teenage girls who are trying to scale a mountain, oblivious that two inbred savages are hunting them.

Even though Clark was intending to retire from the horror genre, he was fully committed to Prey, going so far as working out all the casting choices. But for one reason or another, the project never got off the ground.

But everything worked out in the end. Carpenter created his own slasher with Debra Hill, Halloween, and revolutionised the genre, while Clark went on to direct such classics as A Christmas Story, Porky's, and Baby Geniuses. (Okay, it might be better to forget the last one.)
