10 Movies That Just Got Cancelled

4. Redwall

In February 2021, Netflix announced that they had acquired the rights to the hugely popular Redwall fantasy novel series from author Brian Jacques, and confirmed plans to produce both an animated TV series and feature film based on the IP.

We didn't hear a whole lot about either project in the years that followed, beyond writer Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall) departing the film adaptation in late 2022 due to unspecified changes at Netflix.

The next update, and it's a sad one, didn't come until this past April, when word got out that the streamer had quietly cancelled all plans to adapt Redwall both for film and TV.

Basically, Netflix decided against the adaptations and let their option lapse last year, with the rights now reverting back to Penguin Random House and The Redwall Abbey Company.

Considering the enormous popularity of Redwall and the astonishing 22 books' worth of material to work from, it's a damn shame this one joins the ever-growing pile of unrealised Netflix Originals.
