In August 2020, Sony announced that they were teaming with director Olivia Wilde for a new superhero movie which was later confirmed to be Spider-Woman, with Wilde's regular collaborator Katie Silberman (Booksmart, Don't Worry Darling) tapped to pen the script.

The film was set to be an entry into Sony's beleaguered Spider-Man Universe, though following the release - and subsequent flop - of Kraven the Hunter in December 2024, it was reported that Sony would be winding down its critically panned brand of Spidey-adjacent films to focus on other projects like their Spider-Noir TV series.

This left the future of Spider-Woman in doubt, then, until prolific insider Daniel Richtman claimed at the start of this year that it was indeed among the films scrapped by Sony.

Richtman did hint that Sony might be up for allowing Spider-Woman to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some capacity, but any prospect of a solo standalone movie is totally dead.
