Cannes 2013 Line-Up Predictions: 20 Films That Should Definitely Play

1. Blue Jasmine

woody allen111Director: Woody Allen Starring: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, & Peter Sarsgaard Come on, we all expected it. It's Woody Allen, and pretty much anything Allen makes is worthy of Cannes inclusion - for the most part because this is precisely the audience he makes films for - those cinephiles who are completely invested in the medium and in the art of storytelling and character drawing. In the absence of much commercial appeal - aside from a surprise, but not at all unjustified success with Midnight In Paris, film festivals should be Allen's bread and butter, and based on past years' inclusions it's hard to see why Cannes wouldn't once again go to Allen for Blue Jasmine. The plot is as yet undisclosed, but you can bet there's some sort of difficult relationship and a lot of neurosis. It stands to reason. So what do you think? Would you be excited to hear reportage of these twenty films from sunny Southern France?
