6. Parasite
Considering director Bong Joon-ho was centre of one of the largest Cannes controversies a couple of years ago when his Netflix produced dark comedy Okja was booed at the festival at the sheer sight of the streaming company's logo, it's wonderful to see him take home the Palme d'Or this year for Parasite.
A unique dark comedy, Parasite beat out Tarantino and a slew of other directors for the coveted prize, becoming the first Korean director to do so.
While foreign films in general often have a hard time cracking mainstream Western markets, this is certainly one to keep an eye out for if you have the chance.
