19. Cap's To-Do List & "Trouble Man"

At the outset of the movie, it's quickly established that Cap is still attempting to come to terms with the fact that he's missed out on not only most of his life, but also all of the key formative events of history. As a means to exploring those lost moments, it is revealed Cap has a To-Do List, which he adds to on the suggestion of others, and which appears when Sam Wilson tells him to listen to Trouble Man by Marvin Gaye, because it covers everything he missed. It's a nice touch, but the choice cannot be accidental given the subject of the film the song came from, or the fact that Wilson's statement makes no sense. The film is actually about an island of a man, on the run from both cops and villains (who can recognise the good and bad on either side) - it also focuses on a heist with shady hidden intentions (like Winter Soldier) and has its main character accused of a crime he didn't commit (just like Winter Soldier). The list included in the British version of the film actually includes anglophile nods to the England World Cup win in 1966, and The Beatles, rather than some of the more American ones.
