Captain America: Civil War - 10 Big Implications Of Hulk & Thor's Absence

8. We're Spared Jane Foster (And Natalie Portman) Again

It takes a pretty awful character to ruin an entire movie. However, for many viewers, Natalie Portman's Jane Foster managed to do that all by herself in both Thor and Thor: The Dark World. Thankfully, Thor's absence ensures she won't be appearing in Captain America: Civil War. Portman has made it known she's not particularly enjoyed her time spent in the MCU. Her performances are such that it's almost as though she's trying to get fired. It's not that you don't need characters like Jane Foster in superhero movies - not every female character has to be bad-ass like Black Widow or super-strong like Wonder Woman - the problem is that Portman fails to deliver even on that front. Her love for Thor isn't believable, her chemistry with Chris Hemsworth has been non-existent, her supposedly humorous one-liners consistently fall flat and there's really just no spark in her - when you consider that she's an Oscar winner, that obviously stems from a lack of interest and effort, so her absence is a good thing.
