10. Hawkeye Vs Black Widow (The Avengers)

If you had to predict pairs of characters who would definitely be on the same team in Captain America: Civil War, you'd probably say Tony Stark and James "Rhodey" Rhodes, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson and Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton. However, the latter pairing - who had been comrades in battle for years prior to coming together in the Avengers - find themselves on opposing sides. Black Widow is on Tony Stark's pro-legislation team (which is a surprise in itself) and Hawkeye is on Steve Rogers' anti-legislation team. While this is indeed something of a shock, it would seem that Marvel Studios knew this all along, as they foreshadowed their inevitable battle in 2012's The Avengers, when a mind-controlled Hawkeye took on Black Widow aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Whether or not one of these characters will actually turn out to be a spy for the team they are supposedly facing off against remains to be seen, but the fact is they are currently on opposing teams - and Marvel Studios gave you a hint of what that might look like years ago.
