Captain America: Civil War - 10 Controversial Ways It Could End
3. Captain America Imprisoned
There are seemingly two main camps for whats going to happen to Steve Rogers at the end of Civil War. One suggests hell live and carry on his role, the other that hell be killed. But just imagine how furious people would be if Marvel committed to neither and sent him to jail instead.
It would feel like a huge copout, refusing to acknowledge some of the most epic moments of the comic and giving Captain America an impermanent fate that nobody believes will last. The stage, however, is set for this to happen, as Project 42, a superhuman prison features heavily in the comics and looks to be present in the new trailers as well.
It would, nonetheless, be controversial in clearly awarding the victory to Iron Man. The comics make it feel like both parties lose in the end with the general public seeming to favour Iron Mans side somewhat in the end. This would instead speak to a much greater public acceptance that Iron Man was right, thus making the conflict feel far less engaging in hindsight.
Captain America in jail is an image that would upset nearly everyone and would absolutely fit into the controversy that Joe Russo is hinting at.
