Captain America: Civil War - 10 MCU-Shattering Outcomes That Fans Want To See

6. Howard Stark€™s Death Explained

For Captain America: Civil War to be truly brilliant, it€™ll need to invest heavily in its characters as well as its fight scenes. Killing Rhodey and Peggy is one way to increase the emotional stakes, but delving into the past of the MCU could work equally well. For example, some speculators reckon that the historical death of Howard Stark could come into play. Specifically, there€™s the strong suggestion in The Winter Soldier that Howard Stark may have been killed by Bucky in his mind-controlled-by-HYDRA years. This makes sense on a lot of levels: not only would it give Tony a bigger personal attachment to the narrative, but it€™d also serve to weave together the MCU in a big new way. And going forward, could Tony ever trust Bucky (believed to be the next Captain America) in future? The consequences of this potential plot point stretch out in all directions. Exactly how and when this MCU-shattering information could come to light in the film remains to be seen. Perhaps viewers will get to see The Winter Soldier complete the hit during a pacey opening sequence flashback, but Tony won€™t find out about it until much later on. That could get audience members hooked into the story from the get go. Sadly, though, the real mystery of why Howard Stark looks like three totally different actors across his lifetime may never be solved.
