Captain America: Civil War - 10 Theories On How It All Ends

9. Team Cap Loses The War, Rogers Dies

All this talk of prison is wishful thinking of course, with the alternative much worse for fans of Rogers. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Hydra (who had managed to successfully infiltrate SHIELD by this point) attempted to take out Rogers, fearing that he knew too much about the supposed assassination of director Nick Fury. They of course failed, though double-agent Brock Rumlow certainly put up the best fight. Rumlow was presumed dead after his scrap with Falcon (whom he was totally getting the better of, let€™s face it) was interrupted by a helicarrier crashing through the side of the Triskelion, reducing SHIELD€™s headquarters to rubble and burying Rumlow in the process. We later see him battered, bruised and badly burned, though most definitely alive, and leaked set photos prove that he will return as Crossbones and battle Cap once more. In the Civil War comic, Crossbones has a hand in Captain America€™s death, putting a bullet in his chest with a sniper rifle after Cap has laid down his arms. Will Disney be willing to kill off one of the faces of their multi-billion dollar franchise in the name of authenticity? We shall see. Of course, if they were going to be truly faithful and stick to Marvel€™s original story arc, then it would not be Crossbones who delivers the killer blow to Cap, but Agent 13 (Sharon Carter). While her character has yet to develop that much in the MCU, she plays an important part in the life of Steve Rogers in Marvel€™s comics, first as a love interest, second as his killer; after being hypnotised and coerced into collaborating with Cap€™s villainous enemies, she finishes the job Crossbones starts, putting a bullet in Rogers€™ side from close range.
