Captain America: Civil War - 12 Biggest Rumours You Need To Know (Dec 5th)

5. Martin Freeman's Role Only Becomes Important Later On

It's still unknown who Martin Freeman is actually playing in Civil War, even after he was VERY briefly shown in the Civil War trailer. His sparse character bio suggested he's a liaison between the Avengers and the government, but a snippet released by Kevin Feige suggests another possibility. The new theory reaffirms the early idea that Freeman is playing Everrett Ross - a liaison for Black Panther specifically - who will return in a more substantial role in his stand-alone. Rating: 10/10So sayeth the Lord Kevin Feige:
€œHe€™s under the cloak of secrecy. There are a lot of amazing actors in this movie. Some of them play larger roles than others. And in some cases there are some you will meet ever so briefly in this film and then will be expanded upon in future films. falls into that latter category.€
That would certainly fit the theory that he will reappear aligned with Black Panther in his own movie, and as already suggested, it would also explain why he's in Germany in the shot that sees Cap and Falcon disarmed. If he's there in his capacity as US representative to Wakanda, it might suggest that T'Chaka was there also. And since it's rumoured that T'Chaka's death is what inspires Black Panther to go after Bucky, having him die in the UN explosion becomes all the more convincing.
