Captain America: Civil War - 14 Theories That Were Utter Bull

13. Everett Ross Is Red Skull

The Rumour: Martin Freeman's character is not, in fact, Black Panther's diplomatic pal Everett Ross, at least not in the conventional sense. No, he's actually a modern version of Aleksander Lukin, with Red Skull having used the Tesseract before his death to transfer his mind into Lukin, making him Red Skull Mk. 2.

How Much We Believed It: It was a theory more interesting than convincing to begin with, though once Freeman was revealed to be playing Ross, it became even more difficult to buy into. Why hurl another villain into the fray when the movie already has Helmut Zemo and the central Civil War to deal with? 3/10

The Truth: Ross is Ross: nothing more to it than that. Disappointingly, though, Freeman appears in just a few short, fairly inconsequential scenes throughout the film, his screen time totaling maybe three or four minutes at a stretch. Hopefully he might get a more substantial part in Black Panther's upcoming solo flick.
