Captain America: Civil War - 15 Obscure Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

6. The "Timely" Reference

One for the older comic book fans definitely.

When Tony is trying to convince Cap to sign the Accords (just before he messes it up by admitting that he has Scarlet Witch under house arrest), the pair's exchange contains a great little reference to Marvel Comics' history.

Stark offers Cap the use of two pens from 1941, saying "something from the archives...Timely actually", and says "without these two you wouldn't be here".

He's very right. His "timely" comment is a reference back to Timely Comics, the forerunner of Marvel Comics, who hosted Cap's debut in 1941. There's some speculation that the pens symbolise Timely and Cap's creators, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby.
