24. Vision = Doctor Manhattan

Okay, so it's crossing the big divide, but it's impossible not to get the influence Alan Moore's seminal Watchmen plays on the narrative: at the end of the day, the entire story boils down to a variation of "who watches the Watchmen".

Even more specifically than the idea of superhero regulation and the rise of supervillains in response to the appearance of superheroes, Vision is basically a redone Doctor Manhattan. Not only does he wear a suit - presumably to blend in - but he also struggles with the same understanding of the human condition and his dynamic within the race as Doc.

There's also a lot of Data from Star Trek in there too - particularly at the end when he allows himself to be distracted by his affection for Wanda and accidentally shoots down Rhodey.
