23. The Aunt May In-Joke

If there was anyone to poke fun at Marvel's community of perpetually outraged fanboys, it was always going to be Robert Downey Jr.

During the "teaming up" sequence that sees Tony Stark preposterously work out that Peter Parker is Spider-Man without any hint whatsoever of how, he meets Marisa Tomei's Aunt May and flirts outrageously with her. Seriously, if it turned out they'd just been having sex on the sofa before Parker got home, it wouldn't at all be surprising.

In light of the criticism Marvel took for casting Tomei - who has the audacity to look attractive at the age of 51 - Stark quips with Parker about how hot his auntie is. It's wholly inappropriate, but it's a funny mirror to the reaction to the casting.
