Captain America: Civil War – 8 Big Things We Learned From The Russo’s Facebook Q&A

2.They Fanned The DC Flames (And Hint At Captain Marvel's Director)

Wonder Woman
Warner Bros.

The most interesting thing in the Q&A for me was hearing Joe Russo listing off his most inspirational films - Shoot The Piano Player and Once Upon A Time In The West - and directors - Truffaut, Leone, Coppola, Scorsese. In one excellent quote, he simply stated "you can skip film school and just watch Goodfellas for two months." It's incredibly gratifying to hear directors of blockbusters costing hundreds of millions of dollars are still firmly rooted in proper, classic cinema, but that doesn't tell us anything tangible about Civil War or the wider MCU. What he said after, however, may.

After naming those four greats, Russo added that "a modern director that I really love and I think everyone should check out here work is Michelle McLaren". He cited her excellent work on Breaking Bad (she directed eleven episodes of the show), but what's interesting is her more overt superhero connection - she was going to direct Wonder Woman, but parted with DC over creative difficulties. Is this a jab at Marvel's rival for lettingsuch a talent go?

And, of course, this may alsosuggest she's been over at Marvel to talk about a potential project. Captain Marvel?
