Captain America: Civil War - 11 Things That Definitely Won't Happen

1. The Death Of Captain America It would be brilliant if Civil War ended with Captain America genuinely dead, and the Avengers in pieces after an almighty battle that sends rivers of blood through the streets and has lasting implications to the rest of the MCU. The only problem there is that movies and comic books don't work the same way in terms of audience attachment to characters. Comic book readers inherently know that even major deaths don't last unless they are Canonically Permanent Deaths (like Uncle Ben's), so there's less expectation of longevity in death. Film audiences on the other hand tend to grow fond of actors in specific roles: Captain America IS Chris Evans, and killing him off would be deemed detrimental to the MCU's brand. So even though it's hugely important for the aftermath of Civil War that Cap is genuinely assassinated (and turns up floating lost through time and space, probably found by Dr Strange), it's just too much of a leap from the so-far non-fantastical MCU (comparatively, okay okay) to have that be a genuine thing. In short, it's too hokey for cinema fans. The Alternative They're going to have to end Civil War a different way entirely, particularly if Chris Evans wants to continue in the role. Unfortunately, literally every other possibility simply won't ring with the same impact, but then neither would pretty much every possible explanation for his post-assassination resurrection. If the Russos want a smart alternative to draw attention away from the cop out of not killing Cap, they should look to resurrection of a different type, and have Baron Zemo's actions successfully resurrect Red Skull for Captain America 4. If that was done as the climactic revelation, against a backdrop of a different superhero death, it could be a strong stand-in story. What is certain is that Civil War should not end with the Avengers back together: the arc will have been too short to be truly satisfying, and the Accords should play out across all of Phase 3, until Thanos' appearance at the end brings the teams back together as the world's governments are forced to relent on their restrictions.
