Captain America: Civil War - Every Character Ranked From Worst To Best
How do you solve a problem like splitting screen-time 18 ways?
You really have to hand it to Marvel and The Russos: they took on a monumental challenge in adapting Civil War as the final Captain America film. Not only were they opening themselves up to the very specific expectations and criticism that comes with tackling beloved source material, they also surrendered the protection of a smaller scale sequel like The Winter Soldier.
That film had soared on the strength of story and a fairly limited cast of characters, with political intrigue taking the place of multiple pitched battles and endless super-cameos. To segue from that into a film that can claim to be bigger than a "real" Avengers project, with a raft of new characters, old dynamics to explore and multiple narrative threads to pick up just sounds like lunacy.
And yet, they've only gone and bloody done it. Their audition for Infinity War has already passed $200m worldwide, despite some pre-release concerns of over-stuffing and too many characters. And largely, those suspicions were poorly placed: Civil War is a picture of balance, but it isn't flawless and some supporting characters are a little side-lined.
With a good deal of the world having seen the film, now is the time to ask the important questions. Who is the MVP in the Russos film and which characters can feel hard done by?
18. Everett Ross
If you were hoping for a good glimpse of what Everett Ross might mean to the rest ofthe MCU in Civil War, you will have been sorely disappointed.
Despite the fact that he was consciously left out of the marketing (a decision now justified by the fact that he's basically not even in the film), Ross is almost entirely inconsequential. He's there as another political presence, neither antagonistic or heroic (though his goading of Zemo at the end was a nice little hint), so it's impossible to really givehim points for anything.
Also, Martin Freeman's accent could have done with a little more work. Expect (and hope for) more in Black Panther and possibly elsewhere.
